  Carving Dragons and Other Critters
Class Description:  Select from 1 to 5 days and students may choose from over 20 different blanks.  Power and/or wood burners may be used but neither is required. Class projects of one to five days are available. 
Your instructor will have available power and wood burning tools that the student may use if desired. A dust collector will also be available. However, all projects can be completed without use of any power.  The student should bring their standard carving tools.
If you plan to use power tools, you must use a properly functioning dust collection device.

CLASS # ENG1  INSTRUCTOR - JOHN ENGLER
Class Title:  Medium Relief Carving
Class Description:  John will teach a three day (Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday) relief carving class. A wide variety of subject matter will be available. This will include animals,(i.e. bears, wolves, cougar, moose, etc.), and architectural, [i.e. barns, mills, log cabins, etc.]. Custom designs will be accepted but must be sent to John one month before the seminar. All levels of carving experience are accepted. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to join the class. Students may wish to view johnenglerwoodcarving.com to see his work and the wide variety of projects available to them. Supplies and Tools Needed: We will use primarily #3, #5, #7, #9, and #11 gouges. In addition, V- tools, knives and skews will be used as well. I will provide the projects to be carved in class. As stated earlier the student may choose from a wide variety of subject matter.

    CLASS #: ENG3 - JOHN ENGLER SIGN CARVING OR RELIEF CARVING
John will teach a one day (Thursday February 7, 2019) sign carving class. This class will be held after the three day  relief carving class. The students will learn how to carve lettering using three tools . Both block and script lettering will be taught. In addition ,relief carving techniques will be taught as well. No experience is neccessary, just a desire to learn and have fun!
SUPPLIES & TOOLS: V-tools, knives, and veiners.  Bring all your tools with you to class as we will relief carve as well

    CLASS #: ENG2 - JOHN ENGLER PAINTING
John will teach a one day (Friday -February 8, 2019) watercolor class for painting your relief or other carving. This class will take place after the three day carving class and the one day sign carving class. You can paint these projects or other woodcarving projects from previous years in this class.  Students must bring projects to paint. These projects do not have to be carved from John's classes. No experience is neccessary, beginners are welcome. This is a great opportunity to learn painting techniques to complete your carving projects.
SUPPLIES & TOOLS: John will bring paint and brushes.  The students do not have to bring anything other than their project, unless they wish to bring their own paint and brushes.

CLASS # GUG1  INSTRUCTOR - JOSH GUGE
Class Title:  5 Days -  Carve and Paint a Vermilion Flycatcher
Class Description:  All students start with a tupelo cut-out. Josh will do a series of demonstrations that will teach students every aspect of carving and painting a realistic bird.  Josh is going to cover all the intricacies of creating a soft feathered realistic look, that has made him a much sought-after instructor.
This is a power carving class. Josh will allow students who only work with knives in the class. The class generally runs from 8am - 5pm dailly.
A study cast will also be provided to use throughout the class and can be purchased if desired. Students who do not have time to finish their piece will be able to paint the cast.
Supplies and Tools Needed: There will be a $25 material fee which will include wood cut out, eyes, paint, pattern and reference materials. A study cast will also be provided to uase throughout the class and can be purchased if desired.

Class Title:  1 to 5 DAY Chip Carving
Class Description: This is a chip carving class for beginner, intermediate, or advanced students. Classes have many group demonstrations as well as frequent one on one instructions.  Beginners will do a practice board to learn how to hold the knife and learn many basic cuts, including four rosettes.  Lettering instructions are also available.  There is a very large assortment of projects to choose from, from small ornaments to boxes, clocks,
and plates of different sizes, shelves, kaleidoscopes, peg hangers, and many more items, both functional and decorative.  These come in various skill levels, from beginning to advanced.  Most have more than one pattern to choose from.  It is recommended that students take two or more days of classes for beginners or students working on larger projects.  My email address is: jchalbrook@comcast.net, my website is: www.carolynsartworks.com .

CLASS # KRE1  INSTRUCTOR - GEN KREYLING
Class Title:
  Pyrography (Woodburning)
Class Description: Take 1-5 days of Pyrography (Woodburning).
Learn pyrography (woodburning). This class is geared towards all skill levels, with the likes of the student in mind.  Beginners will learn the basics of woodburning, with an emphasis on why and how the different pens and techniques work. Projects can range from landscape to floral, to humans, architectural, and animals. Stress will be given to soft shading, creating hair/fur, perspective, trees and foliage, shorelines and reflections. As students advance, they can choose projects from over 1,000 patterns or bring their own.  Projects can be completed on Italian Poplar, Basswood (both with or without bark), canvas bags, or gourds. Cost of materials for projects will vary from $1.00 to $20.00.
Tools required: woodburner (I prefer Optima burners and pens, and will have a large selection of them available in class), graphite paper, red ink pen, clear ruler, masking tape, pencil, and eraser. A light may be helpful.
Instructor will provide beginning boards and projects. Graphite paper, red ink pens, erasers and clear rulers will also be available for sale in class. Students may choose one day or more throughout the week. 

Supplies and Tools Needed: Woodburner (I prefer Optima Burners and Pens, and will have them for sale), graphite paper*, red ink pen, clear ruler, pencil, and eraser. A light is helpful. Instructor will provide beginning boards and project. Graphite paper, red ink pens, erasers, and clear rulers will also be available for sale.
*I use erasable graphite paper which can be difficult to find. I will have it for sale in class.

Class Description:
ILLUSION BASKETS
On the basket you will burn in the vertical lines and then use India ink pens with a brush applicator to color the  design you choose . You will be carving two sunflowers on lid with some leaves draping over the basket weave.               
 TOOLS NEEDED:    Wood burner with pens (prefer Optima PH21AE available at the show) #3 -1/8, 1/4, 1/2 #5, 1/4 #11-1/8, 1/4 30%V-tools 15-6 or 16/6.  The dockyard set of Veiner's would be helpful.

Class Title:
  4 DAY 10" Rainbow Trout
Class Description: Wanda Reichert will again bring her expertise in fish carving. She will be teaching Rainbow Trout. Project will consist of carving and painting fish.   Furnished for this 4 day (Mon-Thur) class will consist of one fish blank and paint.   Please bring your habitat or purchase one from instructor.   Base/habitat is extra at $25. A great learning experience if you've never carved fish or used power.
Supplies and Tools Needed: This is a power carving class.  You will need a good dust collector, light, paint brushes  and some hand tools, wood burner with fish tips small, a d tip and dg tip,a good knife, fordom and tips,and a carving glove. A Dust collector is essential.
Class Fee: For 10" Rainbow Trout: $160 for 4 day class, all supplies for fish furnished.   
Supplies Fee: Included in class Fee. The base can be purchased for $25 unfinished, or if finished by Wanda ready to mount your project - $50.  You must let Wanda know if you want a finished one.

Class Description: Five day class. Carve a Santa with Adair for three days and paint with Patty for two. Class Title:
  Pyrography  Woodburning
Class Description: Patty will teach one 2 day (Monday & Tuesday) class. Patty will demonstrate different wood burning techniques that includes a soft shading style that looks like a photo. She will give an introduction to using a wood burner to help beginners. Books for patterns will be provided, as well as transfer paper, and wood panels for your project.
The class fee covers all supplies needed except a woodburner. Beginners welcome. She will have two woodburner units avaiable for use if you don't have one and want to learn. Call to reserve them before class. 512-557-2384

Class Title:
  Carving Santas and Ornaments
Class Description:  Carve for 1 to 5 days with Adair from a selection of Santa roughouts available in class. Carve a Santa from a rough out, carve a Santa Candle on a stick, or carve ornaments. See Adair's web site mentioned in the 5 day class "Carving and Painting a Santa" for samples of Santas and painting style.
Adair will teach how to carve a Santa from a stick.
He teaches a simple face lesson on a stick that can be used as a go-by for future carvings. Beginners welcome. Call 512-557-2384 if you have questions.

Class Title:
  Sculpting
Class Description On Wednesday sculpt a figure, animal or bird that you want to carve. Work out all of the problems in clay first. Bring plenty of reference photos for the subject you want to sculpt. The finished project will be baked at the end of class, the next day. The amount of Super Sculpey clay you need will depend on the project. The project needs to be small, no more than 8" tall in order to fit in a roaster oven in class. An example of clay needed: a figure 8" tall will take about one pound. Detail add-ons will take more clay. Super Sculpey will be available in class.

Class Title:
 Advanced Gourd Techniques -$175 for 5 DAYS - .
Class Description: . This class is designed to move gourd crafters toward becoming gourd artists.  The class will focus on a wide variety of more advanced gourd techniques. Time will be spent on gourd design, pattern layout and viewing gourds showing these techniques in a variety of ways.  Students will be designing their own week-long project incorporating the techniques to be learned.

Although beginning students are welcome, the class is paced for students with some power carving experience and/or gourd art experience.  The teacher will provide demonstrations and gourd scraps for students to practice and experiment with the various techniques.  One project gourd will be provided, others may be purchased or brought by the students if they have a specific gourd they want to use for their project.     

Techniques taught and demonstrated will be based on the needs of the class and may include: pyrography, power carving, setting cabochons, filigree or lattice work, pine needle rims, use of quick wood or epoxy sculpt, and special effects as time permits.

Supplies and Tools Needed:  Power carving tools.  Dremel and/or small high speed drill as (example: small Ram, Micro Motor, gourd master) with bits and burrs.  Dust collector, safety gear (dust mask, eye protection) a light will be helpful. Misc supplies: pencil, paper, scissors, etc.)

Class Title:
  4 DAYS Shallow Relief Carving that includes wood burning and painting with acrylics.
Class Description:  Fred and Elaine started to develop their own unique style of relief woodcarving. Normally, the major elements are carved.  The background details must be individually drawn on each carving taking into consideration the knots, unusual wood grain or board shape.  All of the details are then woodburned.  Each piece is then painted with very thin acrylic paint and a halo of burnt umber stain is applied.  There are four to six coats of hand rubbed varnish on each piece. Class Title:
 3 DAY Wildlfe Class, Choose from River Otter, Eagle Bust, Blue Marlin Bust or Sea Turtle.
Class Description:  Orlando Villarreal is a national award-winning artist, specializing in Aquatic and Wildlife Wood Sculptures. He is also known as one of the top fish Carver's in the United States. Orlando has competed nationally and has won numerous Awards and received first place in the world Taxidermy and fish carving competition in Springfield, Illinois in 2013. Orlando has been teaching wood carving classes and seminars for the last 18 years. He is best known for his attention and knowledge to detail.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Orlando will be offering a three-day class. You will have a choice to choose from four different subjects: river otter or Eagle bust, a blue marlin bust or Sea Turtle. This carvings will be carved out of butternut wood . The cost for this class will be $120 plus $35 for materials and blanks. Class Title:
  Airbrush 101 2 DAY class
Class Description:  Orlando will be offering a two-day class, Thursday and Friday, 101 airbrush class. In this 2 day seminar you will learn how to paint a realistic bluegill and a yellow perch. you will also learn how to use and troubleshoot the airbrush.  I will also show you how to apply powder pigments to create a more realistic looking fish. I will supply the airbrush and paint and powder pigments for this class, the cost for this class is $80 + $25 for fish castings

Class Title:
  4 DAY Sculpture and/or Caricature Carving
Class Description: I started carving and sculpting full time around 1982.    I am a member of the Caricature Carvers of America and teach woodcarving and design throughout the United States. Students may choose to carve any of the roughouts available.    Students should have regular wood carving tools, knives and gouges.  Student may choose to do a sculpture of a future project.    Students should have regular wood carving tools, knives and gouges.    Sculpting tools will be provided. 
CLASS FEE:    $60/Day - For this class
Supplies and Tools Needed: Normal hand tools. Clay available for $15.00 per pound. Roughouts: $20-30 each.
